Selling Your Own Product Never Gets Easier

For the first time in my life I'm working on a project where I am profoundly confident in what I'm building. And I am still nervous AF about talking to people about it!

It's one thing talking to someone who isn't a potential customer. They are always going to say it sounds like a good idea. No one shits on a friend's idea and says "I don't see it." At worst they say they don't have any experience but it sounds cool.

Man, talking to someone who could buy? That's the moment where someone can actually say "no". And will say no.

I thought it would be easier this time given how much I know about coaching sales and marketing and how much I know my solution works. And still, here I am, having to psyche myself up with "you're not selling, you're letting them in on an amazing secret!"

It never gets easier. It's always this moment of extreme vulnerability where you are hoping that someone loves your baby as much as you do. That's the risk you take when you build. And as my buddy Matt Talbot said yesterday, we have to learn to love both outcomes.

This post is really just me giving myself a pep talk this morning.

If you are a founder who sometimes feels like sales is the equivalent of running naked through the streets shouting "look at my every blemish!"... I get it :)
