That Sucks. It Will Get Better.

Earlier this month, I got to share the stage with Jerry Colonna at Thunderview CEO Dinners and it was lovely to see how many similar ideas we have despite holding VERY different energies.

Jerry grew up in NYC, was a venture capitalist, is a buddhist, speaks slowly, and is the master of the pregnant pause.

I grew up on a Florida beach, started companies, am an atheist, speak quickly, and must fill any gap in a conversation.

We create very different experiences for people.

And yet…

We both wish founders would focus on finding happiness and fulfillment NOW, instead of waiting for business success that might never materialize.

We both focus on the values that drive founders.

We both value authenticity more than just about anything else.

We both swear like sailors.

It is wonderful when two people take two very different paths and wind up in exactly the same spot.

Lastly, thank you, Jerry, for showing me the power of the one-two punch that is “that sucks; it will get better”. There is so much grounded and empathetic optimism in those two basic sentiments. I’m using it daily with the people in my life.
