Your Efficiency Obsession Is Why You Procrastinate

Are you a founder who keeps procrastinating? The answer is dead simple.
Stop trying to scale things you don't yet understand.

Founders are efficiency-seeking missiles. We see something in the world that doesn't work well and we are driven to it. This is why we build products and create services and ultimately launch products.

That is our gift.

We are also constantly looking at work that we have to do, around early sales and marketing and customer discovery, as well as processes like weekly 1-on-1s and investor updates and planning and we get wrapped up in how inefficient that work is.

And instead of actually doing the work, we just sit there, thinking about ways to make it more efficient, more scalable, less obtrusive and more effective. And since we haven't done the work, we never figure it out and that work remains undone.

This is our curse.

You are never going to come up with a better way to meet with employees until you've met with them over and over again, and learned what works and what doesn't.

You're never going to come up with that badass marketing strategy until you've spoken with dozens of customers, one slow conversation at a time.

Stop looking for the magic bullet and just start doing the work.

Right now.
