Just read about Read AI's newly announced $21M Series A and I can't help wonder how they are going to succeed where Jasper failed. Yes, it has more features, but is it really creating differentiated value?
The basic premise seems to be, "you have all of these different forms of content -- you're in meetings and you have email and you're on Slack or Teams -- and you're underwater. So we're going to help you digest all of that and give you summaries (aka new content) for you to read and share."
So, it's not so much solving a problem as it is making the problem even worse. Too much content becomes even MORE content.
In the article I read, the CEO says users are freeing up one day per week. So, a minimum of eight hours.
Here's a bullet list of what Read AI says it does:
* Record and Play back meetings (increased time spent for other people)
* Schedule better meetings (this is literally Calendly)
* Upload audio and video (increased in time spent for other people)
* Summarize chat messages (our first decrease in time spent!)
* Summarize emails (if your team is sending you emails that need to be summarized, fire them)
* Instant meeting summaries (increased time spent for other people)
* Generate transcripts (increased time spent for you)
* Action items and key questions (I'll call it a decrease in time)
* Share reports across a team (more time spent reading new content)
I guess there are people who are spending several hours a day writing up transcripts and action plans from meetings? If not, I don't know where the time savings comes from.
Though if you think about it, Read AI is actually genius.
If the problem is too much content, the best solution is surely one that promises to reduce the content you consume while creating even more content for everyone else. PLG, baby!
